If you’re keen to explore the South West in comfort this summer, then the accessible accommodation at Blagdon Farm may be just what you’re looking for.
Situated in the heart of Ruby Country (so called after the Ruby Red Devon cattle farmed locally) yet just a few minutes away from the northern coastline shared by Devon and Cornwall, Blagdon Farm is the perfect base from which to explore both counties – one with numerous facilities for holiday makers that have additional needs and mobility requirements.
Blagdon Farm’s eight luxury ground floor lodges are all step-free and feature extra-wide doorways, roll-in wet rooms and kitchens with a low-level work surface and lever taps. Guests also have access to a range of comforts and appliances, including HDTVs, washer/dryers, dishwashers, fridge/freezers, cookers and microwaves.
The lodges have individually controlled central heating, a parking area immediately outside and a wide covered porch area that’s perfect for storing mobility equipment. Each lodge is double-glazed throughout and has wide patio doors that open out onto a private terrace, with stunning views across the 1.5-acre lake to the beautiful countryside beyond. Dogs are welcome in three of the lodges.
Blagdon Farm’s indoor heated swimming pool has wide steps and an electric hoist for ease of access. The on-site licensed bar and games room are wheelchair accessible too, and there’s a wide range of mobility equipment available for hire, including scooters, wheelchairs, hoists, commode chairs, bed rails and raisers.
The beautiful grounds include an orchard and bluebell woodland, while the coarse fishing lake is well stocked with several varieties of Carp and a wide range of silver fish including Rudd, Roach, Golden Tench and Golden Orfe. Wildlife abounds at Blagdon Farm and species often seen include Hare, Deer, Barn Owls, Geese, Ducks, Kingfishers and Swallows as well as some residents such as the Chickens.
Blagdon Farm is just a few minutes from the wide, sandy North coast beaches at Bude and Widemouth Bay, the stunning resorts of Boscastle and Padstow and the spectacular scenery of Dartmoor. The ancient port of Clovelly and historic Tintagel Castle are close by and the attractions of the Eden Project, the Tate St. Ives and RHS Rosemoor Gardens within easy reach. Nearby, in the pretty market town of Holsworthy, you will find excellent local produce and there’s a livestock and produce market every Wednesday. There are several National Trust and English Heritage properties to visit including the magnificent houses and gardens at Cotehele and Lanhydrock, and the fascinating castles at Launceston, Okehampton and Restormel.
